Byron School of Art (BSA) in Mullumbimby will host an exhibition of works by Hiromi Tango and Lismore based artist Michael Donnelly who has created a series looking at the effects of the recent flood events in Lismore.

The BSA show will also include works by internationally acclaimed photographic artist Polly Borland, local differently-abled artist Zion Levy Stewart, paint and clay artist Stephen Bird, and a floral installation by Selena Murray. 

Images from Polly’s surreal ‘Morph’ series will be curated alongside Zion’s ’Soap Opera’ works. The exhibition will also include a commissioned portrait of ‘Polly’ by Zion who follows in the footsteps of many artists in capturing her unique look.

The BSA exhibition will open from September 29 and the gallery will host a series of talks curated by Ashleigh Ralph from Lismore Art Gallery across the weekend. 

During the exhibition the BSA building will be transformed into a multi-media installation at night featuring video projections by Djon Mundine, Justine Muller and Ryan Andrew Lee along with large collage works by Laith McGregor.

The Art Room: Ozzy Wright & Paige Miller

The Sunseeker,
100 Bangalow Rd, Byron Bay

Artist Ozzy Wright and upholsterer Paige Miller from the Dusty Road have collaborated to take over a room within the Artist hub of Art Byron, The Sunseeker. Their bright, colourful and radical aesthetic has transformed a hotel room into an all immersive, interactive art installation! The room will be open to the public Thursday-Monday 10-4pm with all the works on display for sale.

Ozzy and Paige will be at The Sunseeker on Sunday Oct 2nd to have a chat and show visitors through their installation room.

The Sunseeker Talk: Laith McGregor

The Sunseeker,

Join artist Laith McGregor and Lismore Regional Gallery Curator, Kezia Geddes in conversation at The Sunseeker, Byron Bay, where a collection of McGregor’s small paintings and ceramic works will be exhibited in the main library and lounge space. Laith’s practice spans drawing, painting, sculpture and video. “I see my work as a long drawn-out continuous narrative, slowly unravelling and revealing aspects of myself, my immediate surroundings and thoughts,” he says. His works – in particular intricate ball-point pen drawings - have been shown in Australia and internationally.

Karla and The Tennant Creek Brio will discuss their collaboration and how it is reflected in the body of work exhibiting at THOM Gallery. The Italian word brio – meaning mettle, fire, vivacity or style of performance – expresses the group’s energetic, experimental and transformative spirit and how their collective work emerges from a dynamic interplay of influences.

Join Archibald award winning artist Blak Douglas and Art Byron Curator, Karla Dickens, in conversation with Lismore Regional Gallery Curator, Kezia Geddes. Douglas’ portrait of Wiradjuri artist Karla Dickens, who lives on Bundjalung Country in Lismore, is a visual metaphor for the floods that devastated northern NSW in early 2022. The Sydney-based artist with Dhungatti heritage makes the cutting point that, ‘Spiritually, we all know that Mother Earth is angry at us.’

Borland, a Melbourne-born artist who now lives in Los Angeles, is known for her photographs of noted figures, including Queen Elizabeth II, Nick Cave and Gwendoline Christie. Borland and Perrow will discuss their exciting project and the collaborative process required to bring her practice into the public art sphere.
