A contemporary art gathering held on the October long weekend on Bundjalung Country in Northern NSW. Art Byron acknowledges the Traditional Owners of this land, the Arakwal people, the Minjungbal people and the Widjabul people, and pay our respects to elders past and present.

Art Byron is a dynamic platform for contemporary art. The biennial gathering brings together outstanding artistic talent, creating an open forum for like-minded people to share, discuss, and explore contemporary art and culture.

Groundwork for the inaugural Art Byron themed ‘Love or Fear’ was envisioned by renowned First Nation woman artist Karla Dickens who lived through the devastating March flood events that swept across Bundjalung country around Lismore, the place she has called home for the last 20 years.

Asking the question do we choose Love or Fear?, the inaugural Art Byron launched to great success, gathering local and nationally celebrated artists for a feast of events including exhibitions, gallery talks, music, dance, a multi-media installation, and a Gala artist dinner.

For 2024, we are delighted to announce Laith McGregor as our Festival curator who was also a participating artist in the previous 2022 season. With his compelling theme, ‘Between Language’, Art Byron is in great hands to present an authentic and inclusive event for both local and interstate artists and for the visitors and members of the local community in the Northern Rivers on Bundjalung Country.
